How I Got Here

It all started one day at in late December 2014 at work when an article on Marketwatch caught my eye, how to retire early.  A man that goes by the name Mr Money Mustache would shift my outlook on life.  The idea that one could retire early is what initially hooked me into reading the blog.

Through his blog I went down a rabbit whole to find a wonderland of counter culture, not unlike my short stint of being a skateboarding punk in college, I found genuine people that where swimming against the current. People that stopped trying to keep up with the Joneses, disconnecting from the advertising matrix that traps so many people in the pursuit of the quick fix happiness. Unlike the punk culture, the looked like they blended in to the outside world. Two guys that help add to my new path was the minimalist.

Step one was removing the waste from my life,  I found this book  to be very helpful in allowing myself to let go of items that I placed a value on due to cost or who gave me the item, when it was not an item that was used or needed.

Before  slowly removing the items from our loft that were no longer being used or added a true value to our life, it involved lots of talking to my wife.  Luckily for me, although with some hesitation happened,  not only has she been very understanding of this new path that I wanted to take us through, she has embraced the journey.

Next article is going to be about where we are going.
